Come make something with us! There's a Clayworx workshop for everyone - those looking for a fun day/evening out, those looking to find out if pottery is for them, or potters looking to try a new technique or develop their skills. We offer one-day workshops (most 1.5 - 3 hrs) and occassional multi-day workshops for a variety of skill levels, ages, and techniques. Registration fee includes use of all needed tools, clay, glazes, and firings. Your finished piece(s) is available for pick-up approximately 3 weeks later. Registration section near the bottom of this webpage under workshop descriptions. Please note: Some registration fees are per person and some are for 2 people - check listings carefully.
Wheel Throwing (Adults, 16+): Shaping clay on the pottery wheel. For "Date Night" workshops a single registration is for 2 people. Children/Teens ages 10-15 may attend if accompanied by a participating adult.
Date Night - select Saturdays each month (see listings below) Get your hands dirty while engaging in some good clean fun! Bring a date, a friend, your mom, brother...you get the idea! The night will begin with an engaging tutorial after which the instructor will guide you through the throwing of your own works on the potter's wheel. Each person gets to select one of their pots to keep, which will later be trimmed, glazed (your choice of 5 glaze colours) and fired. Materials included. All skill levels - great for beginners!
Hand Building (Adults, 16+): Shaping clay without a pottery wheel (coils, pinch pots, slabs). For the "Valentine's Mug Merrymaking" workshop a single registration is for 2. For all other hand building (adults, 16+) workshops, registration is per participant. For hand building workshops more geared to children, families, and friends creating collaboratively, see our Friends & Families workshops. Charcuterie Set (using speckled clay!) - January 24Handbuild your own set of 5-10 pieces to compliment your charcuterie board in this 3 hour workshop. Great for entertaining year round! Pieces include small bowls, olive/pickle trays, a small cheese board, and any other creative ideas you may wish to include. For this set, we will be using speckled clay and you will select from a colourful palette of complimentary glazes to accentuate this clay body - will you choose the classic white speckled look or something more colourful?
Lighted Log Cabin - 2 day! - February 7 & 21 Join us for this 2-day workshop to make your own lighted log cabin! As this workshop totals to 6 hours over 2 days, you will be able to utilize techniques that go beyond one of our typical 2 hour workshops! Starting with the hard slab technique, you will be provided with pre-cut cabin structural pieces (not unlike a store bought gingerbread house kit) and construct the cabin. Then using soft clay and clay slabs, along with a variety of stamps, molds, and tools you will modify and customize your cabin - imagination is encouraged! The windows will be cut out to allow for a battery powered light placed inside to shine through. Once finished your cabins will be sent to be bisque fired (clay will be hardened and structurally sound, but still need to be decorated and glazed). In the second day of the workshop you will utilize a number of decorating techniques using underglazes to bring your cabins to life! Sponging, trailing, detail work, stenciling, and dry brushing may be demonstrated based on everyone's design choices.
Valentine's Mug Merrymaking - workshop for 2 - February 14 Bring your sweetheart to our Valentine's themed Mug Merrymaking workshop! Celebrate the occasion by making mugs together! Commemorate the day on your mugs, make matching mugs, or each decorate in your own style - the goal is having fun doing something unique together! Personalize your hand built masterpiece with a variety of textures and colours to make it truly your own! Once glazed and fired your mugs are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe! Friends & Family Workshops (Hand Build & Bond!): Shaping clay without a pottery wheel (coils, pinch pots, slabs). These workshops are geared towards having fun working together on individual projects. Perfect for a parent & child, siblings, two besties, or any other pair you can think of! A single registration is for 2 - one adult and one child, or two adults.One additional child or one additional adult can be purchased as an add-on - perfect for families!Suitable for ages 6+, but those under 8 will certainly need assistance from their accompanying adult. Ages under 16 require accompaniment by participating adult.
Creating Together - Heart Pockets - January 25 Perfect for Valentines Day! These heart pockets can be hung up to hold dried flowers, special trinkets or maybe even love notes! They can also be used as a hanging planter for live plants/flowers if you put a hole in the bottom. Personalize your heart pocket using a variety of available textures and colours to create a gift that says, “I love you”! Or create a beautiful work of art for yourself – you deserve it! Once complete, each heart pocket will be glazed and fired by us and be ready to be picked up approximately three weeks after the workshop – just in time for Valentines Day!
Creating Together - Matchings Mugs - February 8 In February's chilly weather, nothing is better than curling up, cozy and warm, drinking your favourite beverage from your hand-made mug creations! Did someone say the hot chocolate was ready?????! In this workshop, participants will work together to create personalized mugs, suitable for both hot and cold drinks. The mugs can be “one-of-a-kind” or “twinsies”; textured or plain; painted or colour glazed; traditional or animal-shaped. But no matter what they look like, you are guaranteed to share a “Remember the day when…” memory while drinking from them!
