Workshops

Come make something with us!  There's a Clayworx workshop for everyone - those looking for a fun day/evening out, those looking to find out if pottery is for them, or potters looking to try a new technique or develop their skills.  We offer one-day workshops (most 1.5 - 3 hrs) and occasional multi-day workshops for a variety of skill levels, ages, and techniques.
Registration fee includes use of all needed tools, clay, glazes, and firings.  Your finished piece(s) is available for pick-up approximately 3 weeks later.
Please note:  Some registration fees are per person and some are for 2 people - check listings carefully.

Registration section near the bottom of this webpage under workshop descriptions.

Wheel Throwing (Adults, 16+):
Shaping clay on the pottery wheel.  For "Date Night" workshops a single registration is for 2 people.  Children/Teens ages 10-15 may attend if accompanied by a participating adult.

Date Night - select Saturdays each month (see listings below)
Get your hands dirty while engaging in some good clean fun!  Bring a date, a friend, your mom, brother...you get the idea!
The night will begin with an engaging tutorial after which the instructor will guide you through the throwing of your own works on the potter's wheel.  Each person gets to select one of their pots to keep, which will later be trimmed, glazed (your choice of 5 glaze colours) and fired. Materials included. All skill levels - great for beginners!

Hand Building (Adults, 16+):
Shaping clay without a pottery wheel (coils, pinch pots, slabs). For these hand building (adults, 16+) workshops, registration is per participant.   For hand building workshops more geared towards children and creative collaboration, see our Friends & Families workshops.
All materials are included.  Great for beginners as well as those with some experience!

Hanging Planters - Thursday, July 30th from 6:30 - 8:30pm!
Using speckled clay or plain cream clay!  Make one larger planter or 2 smaller ones.

Travel Tumblers - Sunday, August 2nd from 1:30 - 3:30pm!
Once glazed and fired, all tumblers are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe!

Patio Luminaries - Thursday, August 13th from 6:30 - 8:30pm!
Illuminate your evenings with your own patio luminary made using red clay!

Phone Amplifier - Saturday, August 15th from 1:30 - 3:30pm!
No speaker, no problem - this is a great, cord or battery free way to amplify the sound from your phone!

Friends & Family Workshops (Hand Build & Bond!):
Shaping clay without a pottery wheel (coils, pinch pots, slabs).  These workshops are geared towards having fun working together on individual projects.  Perfect for a parent & child, siblings, two besties, or any other pair you can think of!  Suitable for ages 6+, but those under 8 will certainly need assistance from their accompanying adult.  Ages under 16 require accompaniment by participating adult.
Registration is per participant.

Nature Themed Workshops at Clayworx
Materials included.  Great for beginners and children (6+)!  Under 16 requires accompaniment by participating adult and children under 10 will certainly need some help from their participating adult(s).

Bird Bells - Sunday, August 16th from 1:00 - 3:30pm!
Handbuild a beautiful bird bell!  Design it after your favourite real or cartoon bird or let your imagination fly!

Specialty One and Two Day Workshops:
These workshops are full (1 or 2) day.  Please bring a packed lunch - refrigerator and microwave available.  Registration is per participant.

Elevated Slips on Functionware - Saturday, August 1st from 10:00am - 4:00pm!
Make pieces in the morning that will be decorated after a b.y.o. lunch.  Various techniques will be demonstrated.  Whether for your own practice or to use in an upcoming class session, master the use of coloured slips to expand your design and decoration options!

Intro to Plaster Molds - Saturday, August 22nd and Sunday, August 23rd from 10:00am - 4:00pm!
Learn the basics of plaster, types of molds, and how to use molds.  On day 1 you will learn the basics - how to mix, pour and allow the plaster to set.  You will make your one or two part mold.
On day 2 you will clean up your mold and prepare it for use.  In the afternoon you will be guided through hands on experience on how to use your mold for press molding.  Slip casting will also be discussed.

Botanical Plaster Tiles  - Postponed to Fall (early September - date coming soon!)
Make an elegant plaster botanical tile to hang on your wall or otherwise display.  In this introduction to plaster, you will impress botanicals (provided or brought in by you) into a slab of clay and then build up clay walls to contain the poured plaster.  Once set you can leave the tile in monochromatic white or use a stain wash to add colour.

Wall Hanging Florals - Moving to the Fall 2026 class session (5-weeks) to give you more time to practice the techniques and make!
In this two day workshop, make one larger elegant wall hanging floral piece or two to three smaller ones.  You will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques to make and assemble these floral pieces.  Learn the trick to making thin and delicate looking petals!
In the second workshop date (2 weeks later) you will learn a variety of techniques to decorate your floral(s) with underglazes, stains, and glazes.
