Make, Learn, Relax, and Play in our large, bright, & air-conditioned classrooms!
Must have taken at least 1 prior class at Clayworx or similar organization and be comfortable working independently with minimal support in a communal pottery studio setting. For ages 16+. Participants under 16 may attend with prior approval by Clayworx, and must be accompanied by a participating adult.
PLEASE NOTE: We require at least 6 people signed up per session (wheel & handbuilding combined) for the session to run. Therefore, if you are interested, sign up without delay!
For students between class sessions who wants to keep up their skills or practice what they've learned before moving on to another class or membership, as well as those looking for a more relaxed, less structured approach to working with clay in the summer months.
Book a set of open studio sessions in June/July, July, August, or both! The June/July session is on Sunday mornings and the July and August sessions are on Wednesday (and one Monday) evenings. Sessions are purchased as a set of 4 for defined dates. Choose a space in either the wheel or hand-building classroom (or both!) depending on your preferred technique. Use of classroom tools and coloured slips is included. Small pots of underglaze can be purchased at additional cost.
SESSION FEES DO NOT INCLUDE CLAY. Clay can be purchased for $68.50 per sleeve or $34.25 per half-sleeve and includes the costs of glazes used and kiln firing. No "outside" clay or clay bodies other than Tucker's mid smooth stone (classroom clay) allowed unless discussed with both the program manager and Clayworx technician. We will refuse to fire unknown clay bodies due to the risk of kiln shelf/kiln damage. (Purchase clay at a session)
Wheel Boot Camp
Take your throwing to the next level! For newer throwers through to intermediate level, this class is designed with the goal of improving the quality, consistency and/or complexity of your work. Please note, some experience is required; this is not an introductory course - you must have taken at least one other wheel course. Your instructor will help you work through any throwing obstacles you may be encountering and get you throwing taller, bigger, and with more consistency! You won't be subject to "precious pot" sentiments as it is an all-throwing, keep-nothing class - no work will be fired or kept. Class includes unlimited reclaimed clay and the use of basic tools. Please feel free to bring your favourite, most used tools. As well, please bring a small towel and wear an apron and/or wear clothes that can get dirty. Classes are 3 hours each, three consecutive days (Tues, Wed, Thurs) for 1 week, July 21st - 23rd, 6-9pm If there is demand we may open an August session.
